For my sustained investigation, I focused on portraying the heartfelt meaning of all my relationships and how the people in my life shape the person that I am, as well as the importance of connection as a whole. My main guiding question was this: How can I represent the importance of my relationships throughout my life and the joy they have brought me through color and patterns? My works reflect my own identity represented through the people in my life that hold importance. My pieces demonstrate coming of age and my path to adulthood, showcasing a range of images from my childhood to now. Not only do I depict the people in my life, but I also use a variety of bold, vibrant colors and patterned backgrounds that allow the emotion and feeling of a specific moment of time to transcend from the work itself. Some of my pieces include the motif of stars to represent a childlike, almost daydream presence that has stuck with me even as I’ve gotten older. Overall, my main focus in my investigation is the combination of all of my relationships leaving a lasting impact on the person I have become and who I will continue to be.
